5 Self Checks to Elevate Your Podcast and Drive Revenue

Traci DeForge: [00:00:00] Are you fully repurposing the content from your podcast? Okay, no, I am not talking about ripping a transcript and editing it and uploading it for SEO. That is not content repurposing

Voice Over: This is the Growth Accelerator Podcast. Now your host, Tracy Deforge. Before

Traci DeForge: we talk about advanced strategies like YouTube and audio ad campaigns, we need to get into a conversation about the foundation of your show.

This podcast episode is your self-check, and if you’re working with a marketing team, this is the episode you want to send to them so everybody is on the same page about the tactical ways to grow your show. You can do this. Self-check one: mindset shift. Your podcast is not contained in an independent silo.

It is a content generation hub. I talk about this in my [00:01:00] conversation with Jason Cercone on Let’s Blow This Up.

Voice Over: A podcast right now is not just a podcast

Traci DeForge: in a silo solo existence, especially for a business owner who’s trying to drive, uh, in- increase their bottom line. It’s a content creation machine.

Voice Over: Absolutely.

Traci DeForge: And if you can develop a, a foundation and have a format and produce it in a way that gives you the versatility like we were talking about, you don’t ever have to worry about creating content outside of just showing up and recording. And I know, you know, it’s, that’s not new information today, but I think it’s what people forget because they’re thinking like, “Well, I got a person to do my SEO over here, and I got paid Facebook and ads over here, and I got…

Oh, maybe I should do a podcast.”

Voice Over: Self-check two. This conversation with Jason is what repurposing is all about.

Traci DeForge: If you do a podcast, then you can optimize your SEO, create really good, authentic content for [00:02:00] your social that you can turn into paid ads-

Voice Over: Yeah … and

Traci DeForge: e- enhance your content creation with blogs and social and tr- all of the things.

But if you don’t think it all the way through from the start, then you end up having to go back and spend more money changing how you open and close the show, changing how your show is branded, making sure it fits in with all the other ads that you’re doing out or the social media presence that you’re having.

And, and so if you get that right from the start, I just think it’s just something that it’s, it’s, it’s just so much more than going, “They just

Voice Over: want

Traci DeForge: us

Voice Over: to pay

Traci DeForge: for their VIP day.”

Voice Over: No.

Traci DeForge: Like, no, no, that’s not it. Self-check item number three: SEO optimization. I know, I know. It can feel intimidating, and it’s all turned upside down with AI.

But here’s the simple version. Make sure your titles are SEO optimized. Make sure your episode descriptions are SEO optimized. And here’s… I know this [00:03:00] about you. I’m telling you, I know this about you. You want to take a shortcut with your show note summary notes. Big, big mistake. That is the den for SEO optimization.

Your show notes summaries are the key to people discovering your show on Apple, on Spotify. Upload them to your website. Refreshing your content every time you release an episode on your website fuels your SEO Use the keywords that you do research on to get your titles and your episode descriptions optimized.

Integrate those into your show note summaries. And here’s your bonus tip. Please, please, please, do not get caught up on, “My show notes don’t sound like my voice.” No, they shouldn’t sound like your voice. Your content, your audio, your video podcast, that sounds like your voice [00:04:00] because it is your voice. But your show notes need to be written for Google.

While your content needs to be created for your audience, your show notes need to be optimized for Google. So no shortcuts. Here we are, self-check number four: production quality matters. And no, I’m not just saying that because I own a full-service podcast production company. That would be a little too obvious.

No, I’m saying that because production quality matters. Here’s why. You are investing in your quality of your logo, in your signage, in the beautiful extensions of all of your brand materials. Everything is a representation of you and your brand. So your podcast production quality needs to represent you in the same top-shelf, top-quality way.

And speaking of brands paying [00:05:00] attention, they notice. So if part of your growth strategy is to increase your subscribers, your viewers, and your downloads so that you can monetize your podcast through sponsorship, then you need to start with assessing the quality of your production, because brands pay attention.

If they are going to be aligned with you and your content, they want to be sure they are showcased in the best possible way as well. So yes, production quality matters. We are at self-check item number five. Probably, if you’ve gotten this far into the episode, you’re about to hear the most important of the five, which is your call to action is the key to success to getting your audience to continue the conversation with you.

When your audience continues the conversation with [00:06:00] you, they connect with you, they build a relationship with you, they refer you, they do business with you, all of the things that you’re frustrated by, which is why you wanted to listen and watch this episode in the first place. Your call to action is the key.

At Produce Your Podcast, we’ve done hundreds if not thousands of podcast audits. It is the area that we identify as one of the biggest areas of growth for visibility, leads, and conversions. A call to action needs to be a warm invitation to continue the conversation with your audience, because that is how they know how to connect with you, build a relationship with you, do business with you.

If this feels fuzzy or you need more clarity around exactly how to make your call to action work for you, I did an entire episode on it. You’ll want to check it out, and then you’ll want to take that advice and start using it in your podcast the next time you record an episode. The strategies I outlined in these [00:07:00] five self-checks are the true foundational pillars of growth for your podcast.

But I know it can be a lot. So take a listen, and if you need guidance or you wanna get more clarity, just reach out. Our team is here for you. I’m here for you. We want you to break through these barriers for growth and scale your show to the next level. And if you need some help, we’re here for you. So here’s what I’m gonna do.

I’m gonna give you a sample of a warm invite call to action right now.
